India at NAM Summit

The Vice President said

  • Three issues - Peace, Sovereignty and Solidarity for Development comprised the theme of the NAM Summit meeting and the point that India made emphatically was that the core issue of sustainable development was not possible unless there were sustainable conditions of peace in societies. 
  • Along with sustainable development and the situation in West Asia, terrorism formed the three longest sub-items in the final document.

On Pakistan:

India has raised with Venezuelan leadership the issue of "flagrant misuse" of NAM plenary by Pakistan to make "unwarranted and unacceptable" comments on Kashmir, saying South Asia suffers from Pakistan's "dangerous use" of terrorism as an instrument of state policy.

Pakistan has continued to provide safe havens to internationally designated terrorists and terror outfits.

Pakistan  said, "peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without the settlement of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council".

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has condemned the Uri attack and expressed solidarity with Indian people.

On UNSC reform:

India and 119 other members of the NAM have sought the reform of the UN Security Council to make it more effective and representative.

A declaration of the 17th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit issued today called for the reform of the Security Council, in order to transform where to get an abortion pill it into a more democratic, effective, efficient, transparent and representative body, and in line with contemporary geo-political realities.
 

PARAM-ISHAN super computer:

North East India receives heavy rainfall during monsoon, which leads to flooding and landslides. PARAM-ISHAN can be used for Weather, climate modeling and seismic data processing.

 

West Pakistan refugees meet Dr Jitendra Singh, demand action against Pakistan 

The members west Pakistan said that they are among the earliest victims of Pakistan hostility towards India and have suffered injustice for nearly seven decades since the time of partition. They said, as true patriots, while they have constantly suffered for their genuine rights, they also feel extremely distressed by the losses suffered by Indian brave hearts.

While appreciating the sentiments of the members of delegation, Dr Jitendra Singh assured them that whatever future strategy the Government of India decides, it will be in the best interest of the nation and in keeping with the expectations of over 125 crore people of India.

 

Yatri Mitra Sewa

With a view to provide support to old and differently abled passengers requiring assistance at the stations, Ministry of Railways has decided to introduce  Yatri Mitras Sewa for enabling passengers to book wheelchair services cum porter services.

A Yatri Mitra can either be a Sahayak or any other person provided by IRCTC or the service provider appointed by IRCTC for this purpose.

The responsibility of providing Yatri Mitra Sewa has been entrusted with IRCTC

 

Cauvery water dispute

The Cauvery Supervisory Committee in its seventh meeting held in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of Union Water Resources Secretary Shri Shashi Shekhar directed Karnataka to release 3000 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu from 21st to 30th September 2016.

The supervisory committee took into consideration the interest of all the participating states, the inflow position, rain fall picture, daily inflow of water in the reservoirs of Karnataka, the drinking water of needs Karnataka and the need of samba crop in Tamil Nadu.

The supervisory committee will meet frequently to access the situation and needs in the future. The next meeting will be held in sometimes in October. The committee will meet once in every month from February 2017 onwards.

Rainfall Prediction by IMD:

India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the monsoon will be normal abortion videos this year. Earlier it has predicted more than normal rainfall for the four month period of monsoon from June to September.
 

Agriculture

The government has set a target of providing weather related information to 94 million farmers of the country by December 2018.

The government is committed to provide accurate information about weather to all the farmers of the country.

As per the National Council for Applied Economic Research, such activities have contributed 50 thousand crore rupees in the GDP.
 

Myanmar

At least eight people have been killed and thousands displaced by clashes in southeast Myanmar, rebels and border forces said today, violence that threatens to undercut the new government's push for peace.

Fighting broke out this month between government troops and an ethnic rebel splinter group known as the DKBA in Karen state, near the border with Thailand.

The clashes come just weeks after Aung San Suu Kyi's government held a landmark summit aimed at ending almost seven decades of ethnic insurgencies.

The Nobel laureate has made brokering peace with the patchwork of armed minorities fighting the state a priority.

 

One-third of total maternal deaths in 2015 happened in India: Report

The latest Lancet series on maternal health reveals that nearly one quarter of babies worldwide are still delivered in the absence of a skilled birth attendant. Further, one-third of the total maternal deaths in 2015 happened in India, where 45,000 mothers died during pregnancy or childbirth while Nigeria shouldered the maximum burden of 58,000 maternal deaths.
